Noninvasive imaging of the venous system is far more advanced at our labs than at most facilities, as our mainstay of practice is that of the cardiovascular and neurologic systems. It is often the first place we start when investigating leg pain and cramping.
While most centers focus on only the large, deep veins, and life threatening issues, we scan these larger veins, as well as the superficial veins that cause cramping, pain, swelling, discoloration, and restless legs.
Because we treat such a large variety of venous disorders, we understand how the systems and channels inter-relate to form a complex, interrelated vein system, and how changing each channel affects the system as a whole.
Your initial duplex venous scan takes approximately 20 minutes for a full, comprehensive scan of both the deep and superficial vein systems, and is completely painless and non-invasive. You should be as well hydrated as possible prior to this test for accuracy, and have avoided any stimulants such as diet pills or caffeine at least 12 hours prior to the test being performed.
This test will be repeated (in a much shorter version) after any endovenous procedure such as EVLT or VNUS to ensure the most perfect end-result possible, as well as to document the absence of any adverse outcomes.
